Polish Builders - London

Welcome to PSV CONSTRUCTION the internet guide to House Extensions . This site has been developed to assist people who are currently considering having an extension to their house, but don't know where to start. There is lots of useful advice and information about the processes involved in having a House Extension UK from Planning Permission and Building Regulations right the way through to the finishing touches. Within this House Extension site we have also included some useful tips about having a Loft Conversion, Basement Conversion, new Kitchen or Conservatory.

The information held within this site will not only help with the initial decisions about whether to move house or have a house extension built, but hopefully it can guide you into making the right choices along the way and give you some idea about the costs of having an extension built on your home.

Many people in today's housing market are frightened by the big difference in value between their current property and the next step up. Maybe it is the difference between a 2 and 3 bedroomed house, or maybe one of the owners now works from home and is in need of a study, and a house with a study downstairs can be a considerable amount of money more than one without.

We have several case studies on the site to give you inspiration when considering an extension to your property. Or you could download a copy of our fantastic Extension Diary - follow Vicki through the build of her extension - share her joys, pitfalls and find out all the costs she has incurred. It could save you hundreds of pounds by avoiding many problems that could occur.

If you are trying to decide what the best options is then try our "Move or Extend" section. Reading this will not answer your question - you must make the final decision. However, it may be useful to look at an example of the costs involved for both options before making your decision.

Loft conversions and basement conversions are becoming more popular due to uncertainty over house prices and the high hidden costs of moving (solicitors fees, estate agents fees etc). Many people choose to have a loft conversion or basement conversion because they want more space but like the house or area they are already in and, although they want more space they do not want to move.

The space in a loft or attic can be as much as 30% of the total floor area of the home. It usually only contains a cold water storage cistern and chimney stack. In almost all cases it is wasted space that can be turned into habitable space. If the attic is used for storage there is no need to lose all of this storage space as some attic space can be retained.

As the main fabric of the building is already there, a loft conversion or cellar conversion is often cheaper than extending your home outwards (between £8000 and £25000 on average). It could increase the value of your home by 10% to 20%. In addition you often do not need planning permission for a loft conversion or basement conversion. For more information about planning and building regulations see our Planning page in this section and Council Links in the main planning section.

A basement conversion is more straightforward if there is an existing cellar, but this is not always necessary and an extra room can often be built even when there is no existing basement.
